Clean Eating: Keep it Simple
Have you ever tried to eliminate one type of food or ingredient from your diet? It could have been beans or milk or even a certain protein? The moment you take away something even for just a few weeks, something wonderful happens: you become mindful of what is going into your body! Just pausing and taking an inventory of what your options are while perusing a restaurant menu or enjoying a potluck dinner at a friend’s house. When you have given yourself a boundary, you have actually given yourself options. Options to eat with nutrition in mind.
Clean Eating is exactly that idea. Even though it may feel quite structured it actually isn’t complex.
What is the very first thing you need to do? Throw out your can openers! You thought I was going to say make a grocery list, didn’t you? Well, the time to make a list will come later, lets remember to keep it simple.
The can openers are obsolete because cans are found in the center aisles of the grocery stores. Also, boxes of rice with powdered flavorings, applesauce or yogurt in tubes, bags of pretzels, pasta, and condiments that reside there as well and marked with an expiration date a year or two out. If something is deemed okay to consume in over a year then what actually has been added to it?
If you are not pushing your cart up and down the aisles deciding on what box of cereal to purchase then where shall your cart travel? Make sure it only grazes on the outside perimeters of the store. The fresh food is not trapped on shelves! It is being lightly sprayed with water or have been freshly cut by the butcher. Also, whole wheat and organic grains are ideal. Eating clean means consuming fresh and non processed foods.
You know what is going into your body because you are eating it either fresh or preparing it yourself. A lovely way to think for each meal is to eat a rainbow. Keeping in mind that deep greens and colorful fruits and veggies are full with nutrients that our bodies need. Now, returning to the list that was mentioned before. Take a pen and paper and scribble down: food containers. The best way to excel at eating clean each day and for the week is to prepare for it. Creating grab and go meals and snacks is truly the best way to curb the temptations of those american cheese colored squared crackers.
Removing processed sugars and items that hang out in your cupboard could be your first step towards eating a clean diet. Be conscious of what you choose to put into your body and how you treat your body.
